A break-even stop is a stop adjustment, not a separate order. Once the trade reaches a set profit (a percentage, or after a number of bars), the stop is moved up to your entry price. From that point the worst case is a scratch — the trade has been made risk-free.
It is a simple way to protect a position that has started working without capping its upside. The trade-off is that a normal pullback can now stop you out at break-even just before the move resumes, so the arming threshold should sit beyond typical noise.
Beispiel
A long is set to arm break-even at +1.5%; once price gets there, the stop jumps from −2% to the entry, so the trade can no longer lose.
